Meet Dr. Johnson

Murray H. Johnson, OD, MS, FAAO

Dr. Johnson, a graduate of the University of Houston, is highly recognized and internationally known for his expertise in the contact lens treatment of corneal irregularities and disease. Dr. Johnson’s private practice in Dallas, Texas has a patient base consisting of individuals from the entire state of Texas, nationally, and internationally.

He specializes in caring for Keratoconus and for patients with specialty contact lenses following surgeries such as Lasik and corneal transplants. Dr. Johnson has extensive experience with state-of-the-art specialty contact lens technologies for the treatment of difficult corneal problems. He also provides eye consultations and treatment in addition to pre and post operative patient care.

Dr. Johnson is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease, and has had an extensive career in both patient care and academia. Licensed in Texas since 1983, he also pursued graduate studies and attained a Master of Science degree in Physiological Optics and Vision Science from the University of Houston. His practice emphasis is in the area of therapeutic and cosmetic applications of contact lenses to both healthy and diseased corneas. Those patients requiring routine eye care are serviced as well.

Before his arrival in Dallas, he was Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Houston and a Researcher at Houston’s Institute for Cornea and Contact Lens Research. After settling in Dallas in 1985, he served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston and remained a Researcher at Houston’s Institute for Cornea and Contact Lens Research until 1990.

In addition to being in private practice, he is presently also a consultant and clinical investigator to contact lens and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Dr. Johnson has lectured extensively throughout the United States on a variety of corneal and contact lens topics and has also authored many articles for the professional press.

Dr. Johnson is a member of many professional organizations, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Public Health Association-Vision Care Section, and Contact Lens Section of the AOA. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of Sigma XI—The Scientific Research Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

His numerous civic functions have included being on the Board of Directors of a local Dallas school and serving on the Associate Board of Directors of a local bank.
